The Finals Gets PS5 Pro Update (2024)

Popular live-service shooter The Finals is the latest addition to the growing list of PlayStation 5 Pro enhanced games. Although developer Embark Studios has yet to reveal specifics on The Finals' PS5 Pro patch, preliminary testing indicates that the first-person shooter runs smoother on the upgraded console.

Developed by Embark Studios and published by Nexon, The Finals launched in December 2023 and immediately caught the attention of players thanks to its unique game show concept. Essentially a PvP first-person shooter, The Finals' gameplay loop entails two teams going up against each other in a series of combat-focused game modes. The game's extensively destructible environments further add to the fun and encourage players to strategize. Short wonder, then, that The Finals racked up 10 million players just 15 days after release.

Embark Studios has frequently updated The Finals with new seasons to address community feedback and add new content. With the game now approaching its one-year anniversary, Embark Studios has enhanced The Finals for PS5 Pro users as well. The studio announced the PS5 Pro patch for The Finals at the 2024 Golden Joystick Awards, but curiously didn't elaborate on what players can expect from the shooter's upgraded version. However, some The Finals players have tested the PS5 Pro patch to ascertain what it includes.

The Finals Seems to Be Light on Bells and Whistles for the PS5 Pro

YouTuber PS5 Pro Rob tested The Finals after the PS5 Pro patch recently went live, but the improvements are unspecified even within the game. They noted that The Finals' video settings menu has no graphical toggles on the PS5 Pro, which is rather odd since most other PS5 Pro enhanced games feature performance and fidelity options that clearly outline what they entail. It also appears that The Finals doesn't offer a 120Hz high refresh rate setting for PS5 Pro users, which is unfortunate as a smoother framerate goes a long way for first-person shooters. PS5 Pro Rob did remark that The Finals looks to be running at a more stable 60fps on PS5 Pro, but without a proper framerate graph, it's hard to be certain.

The Finals' PS5 Pro upgrades, then, seem to be much milder than other games. The apparent lack of a 120fps mode is a missed opportunity as well, and one can only hope Embark Studios has plans to further expand PS5 Pro support for The Finals. That may take a while, though, since the developer is currently working on a PS4 version of The Finals, which is set to launch on December 12.
