September 28, 2005 An educational and business mission from Tampa Bay Area in cooperation with Florida International Business School (FIBS) focusing in promoting international trade, visited already two states in Brazil in the last several days presenting a series of workshops and also promoting Florida companies, trends in infrastructure investment, and possible options for addressing imports and exports between both nations. The mission leader, Mr. Jefferson Michaelis, met today with Rodrigo Hajar who represents the Campinas Cooperation Secretary to discuss potential international ventures in that region. Also in Campinas, representatives of ATI enterprises, an American company based in Florida, had a chance to meet face to face with local business people to discuss potential international ventures. During the meeting, various options were discussed for stepping up selected public and private investments in infrastructure and exports with strong potential for boosting Brazil's growth over the medium term, within the overall framework of a macro economically sound and sustainable exports policy. Discussions also focused on the need to further strengthen existing systems of appraisal, selection, implementation and monitoring of public private investments. Options for promoting an increased involvement of the private sector in the manufacturing, construction and operation of infrastructure, including through efficient and fiscally sound private-public partnerships (PPPs), were also discussed. Next week the group will be visiting the city of Sao Paulo. This project offers a series of "practical" presentations and case studies being conducted by the chamber of commerce and FIBS in various regions in Brazil aiming professionals and students to foster more business between the United States and Brazil.
